Youth Estuary Stewardship Project

The Lower Fraser River Basin is one of the heaviest populated areas in British Columbia. This has resulted in heavy development and alteration of the Fraser River estuary. The Youth Estuary Stewardship (YES) project looks at impacts on the Estuary and provides both in class and field work opportunities for school aged children.

Youth Mentoring Stewardship Project

NWPS works with youth to increase ongoing environmental volunteerism in their community. This project works direclty with a school's ecology club or a class to develop and deliver educational programs to generate an interest in students of all ages. The goal of this project is to increase youth volunteerism and stewardship of the natural world.

Habitat Restoration

Species need healthy habitats for their survival. Once a month, NWPS heads outdoors to help cleanup habitats that have been influenced by human activities. We visit local wildlife habitat and participate in a variety of stewardship activities such as tree plantings, trail restoration, and invasive species removal.

Beach Clean-ups

Each year in September, NWPS participates in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, a nation wide effort to clear aquatic debris from streams, lakes, rivers, wetlands and ocean shorelines. By removing aquatic debris from these sites, habitats are safer for both humans and wildlife species.
