A Wild Evening

On June 18th, NWPS staff participated in Twelfth Avenue School's 'Science Night'. It was a wonderful evening which was widely attended by more than 200 students, parents and staff. The gymnasium was full of science displays prepared by students highlighting a great variety of topics. NWPS staff set up a highly interactive display exhibiting most of the society's biofacts including skulls, furs, antlers, a sea turtle shell and a full size snowy owl. Individuals were impressed with all of the wildlife information exchanged and overall had a very enjoyable evening.

This first ever Science Night at this school proved a success and hopefully more events such as this will follow. A special thanks goes out to all those who helped with the success of this event.

Youth Estuary Stewardship Event

Last week NWPS staff and volunteers led a group of grade six students to London's Landing in Richmond for an estuary stewardship day. The outing is part of the society's Youth Estuary Stewardship program (YES). The students as well as their teacher and parent volunteers helped clean industrial woody debris from the estuary. This activity helps promote the growth of native estaurine vegetation as well as providing wildlife habitat for the many species that depend on this biologically productive ecosystem. The activity is also a team building experience that helps youth engage in the power of enviromental stewardship.

A special thanks to all those who helped during the event, including the Green Team from Metropolis at Metrotown.
